John 6:66-67 "From that time many of His disciples went back, and walked no more with Him. Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will you also go away?
We have embarked upon a journey of a lifetime. This walk we have begun is not a stroll on a Sunday morning, no it is a life long hike up a mountainous terrain, filled with obstacle, bumps, pot hole, and many dangerous enemies lying in the cut waiting to detour us onto the downward road. Many who have begun this walk, have fallen by the way side, because the road got tough and the material gain has blinded them. Will you turned back from following Christ?
In our text today we have Jesus speaking to the multitude that often followed Him. He pointed out, how many of them only followed Him because of the things they received. We to can be guilty of following Jesus for the things we seek and not because He is the way to life everlasting. Many have stopped following Christ in favor of the things and positions they have obtained. Once we receive the job we want, or the wife/husband we want or even the positions and titles we seek after, we find our commitment to Jesus weakened. we tend to devote more time to the blessing, not leaving much time to the one who blesses. Let us remember to follow Jesus for who He is and we won't be sidetracked with the things we might obtain.
It is really a dangerous thing to follow Christ only for what we can get from Him. God is not mocked, let us be careful not to sow to the flesh, that we might reap the rewards of God's spiritual blessing and have everlasting life.
