The proud and the just stand out in relief:the uplifted and the upright are as far apart as the north and south pole; and the result of trail in the two cases is as different as death from life.The soul which is lifted up in pride will be impatient,and will not be able to wait on the Lord,in fact it causes one to rebel against the Lord and his will for your life.Pride can take on many shapes,but in all cases pride is unreasonable,who are we that we should make God our servant,that we should order him around.In every case pride is displeasing to God, specially when it interferes with the sovereign liberty of his grace.The proud man soul is not upright in him,he does not know the truth,he does not seek the light.His whole religion is warped by his false mood of heart and mind, his very soul is out of order by his vanity.He will not wait ,thus he will sin in his haste to be delievered;he will rush from God to false treasures;his life will show that he is not right with God.
Because of pride he will grow tired of the gospel,he thinks he is too great for it ,it dosn't apply to him.he is too wise to believe it; too good to need it, as he is puffed up in his own self righteousness. Most of what keeps us from believing revealed truth, comes from a mind thrown out of balance by pride of intellect,or pride of purse,or the pride of heart.We must be emptied of self before we can be filled with God's grace;we must be stripped of our rags before we can be clothed with his righteousness;we must be unclothed that we might be clothed,wounded that we might be healed,killed that we might be made alive;burried in disgrace,that we be raised in holy glory. "Sown in corruption,that we may be raised in in-corruption;sown in dishonor,that we be raised in glory;sown in weakness,that we may be raised in power".We must decrease as he increase.
A heart full of pride is but a vessel full of air;this self-opinion must be blown out of us before saving knowledge be poured into us.Humility is the knees of the soul,and to that posture, the lamb will open the book;but pride stands upon tip-toes,as if she would snatch the book,and open it herself.The first lesson of Christianity is humility; and he that hath not learned the first lesson is not fit to move to the next one. Because of pride, the fallen angels are in hell; for pride Nebuchadnezzar, who is in the forest,should be in his palace(dan4);but for pride ,Pharaoh,who lies with the fish,should be with his nobles(exodus 14); no sin has pulled so many down as pride,which decieved them, as it promised to set them up.Of all the children of pride,the pope is the father,as he sits in the temple of God and is worshipped as God(2thess.2:4). If it wasn't for pride the pharisees would have accepted Christ and worshipped him as the Savior of the world.The man who is really just is truly humble,as he yields to God word with an undying faith.His faith in God keeps him during times of trials,and his life conquers the trials,and leads him into eternal life with his savior.
Let us remember it is not about us,not about who we are the titles we hold or anything else.It is about Jesus Christ and him crucified,in this truth alone lies the salvation for the whole world
